Update on Westwood’s Involvement with Hurricane Relief Efforts

Our vision, as teachers, parents and staff, is to encourage students in responsible citizenship so each can make a positive, personal contribution and actively participate in the local, national and global community.

Administration and Support Staff members are continuing to meet to discuss meaningful ways that we can contribute to relief efforts. In the days ahead, we will be sharing opportunities for our community to become involved in these projects.

However, we also continue to wait and watch – not because we are not eager to help, but we are allowing experts to discern the best ways we can help. In the meantime, you can:

  • Continue to visit this webpage for updates on our involvements
  • Visit our social media pages for live updates
  • See below for ways to provide services and resources to help immediately.

Here are several resources provided by the American Montessori Society (AMS)

  • Texas Monthly: information about donating to programs that serve people with special needs, and more
  • Dallas Morning News: how to register as a volunteer, provide supplies, and more
  • Archdiocese of New Orleans: Parish-based support…
  • Chron: food banks, donate money, support African-American businesses, help pets…
  • San Diego Tribune: volunteer, donate money…
  • USA Today: help a children’s hospital, donate money, volunteer…
  • CNN: donate blood, donate supplies, help with cleanup…

UPDATE: The Diaper Drive launches on Tuesday, September 5th. Please bring children’s diapers of all sizes. The first pick-up date is on September 8th and the second is September 22nd. Diapers will be dropped off at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center. Collection bins are in the foyer at Proton Campus and Midway Campus.

During our Homecoming Week, the week of October 29th, we will be adopting a school located in the areas affected by Harvey. Our goal is to assist a school in need by providing aid in any way possible. Be on the look-out for more information regarding this effort!
