 Adventure Leadership The Upper School brings together students from many different backgrounds and cultures. To that end, the beginning of each academic year involves an adventure program and leadership training. The aim of the adventure program is to help students find their boundaries, limits and provides them with opportunities to go beyond them in a controlled and safe setting, to go out of their comfort zones and develop opportunity to meet new people in the same challenging setting. Academics forms the backbone of the adventure program closing the circle back to the IB programme.  The adventure is an integral part of the upper school program giving students an opportunity to bond and learn about the year to come. The Westwood School is one of only two schools in the United States to offer a unique blend of the highly regarded Montessori method with the world-acclaimed International Baccalaureate.
Since 1986, Westwood has provided an outstanding Montessori environment beginning at the pre-school level. Providing an ideal overlay to the foundation laid by the Montessori method, Westwood is an authorized IB Middle Years Programme school (grades 7-10) and a candidate school for the IB Diploma Programme (grades 11-12). The first graduating class of The Westwood Secondary School will be spring 2011.
In today’s world, combining two global educational approaches--Montessori and the International Baccalaureate--offers a powerful synergy to students.
