IBeanery Coffee House

Need your morning dose of coffee?

Join us at the student-run IBeanery!

As part of any Montessori adolescent program, and of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, students learn to run a business. Westwood students prepare for years as they organize and serve the Westwood community at their Annual Waffle Breakfast, prepare "On the Go" dinners for parents, and conduct the school-wide Halloween Carnival.

At higher grade levels, students manage the IBeanery, proceeds from which help fund their school trips and other student activities.

Economics is an important part of the IB curriculum and the IBeanery was the brainchild of Westwood students. They designed the Coffee House, oversaw the construction, and provided the finishing touches to the building remodel necessary to make their coffee house a reality.

Our students developed business and marketing plans, and studied the process of roasting beans, coffee blending, and types of machines used to make the various brews. They  visited other coffee houses to determine IBeanery offerings.

Students plan their daily IBeanery duties, maintain accounting, and plan advertising. They also conduct regular business meetings to discuss challenges and develop new strategies.
