Step Three

Complete the application send or arrange for all documents to be forwarded to Westwood Admission Office.

*English as Second Language (ESL) -- Westwood is an English language school. Transcripts/teacher recommendations should indicate demonstration of English level or ability. Submission of TOEFL or IELTS scores is recommended.

 

All students must have a functional ability in English. This means that the student can follow or give basic information in a emergency and can follow basic instructions or direction from a teacher.Westwood provides ESL support for students already speaking some English but Westwood is not a language school. Student lacking a functional ability in English must complete and ESL program BEFORE arrival at Westwood.

 

Students with a minimal functional ability in English are conditionally admitted up to grade 10. These students are placed in an ESL program of at least 5 additional hours per week. Fees for ESL are not included in base tuition and are borne by the student.

 

ESL students are not accepted for entry in the Diploma Programme students (DP), grades 11 and 12. The DP programme is challenging and rigorous and is not appropriate for ESL students. Alternative placement in grade 10 and ESL is possible.

 

Step Four

The Admission Office will contact the applicant to schedule an appointment for a student and parent interview with the Head of Upper School and/or Director. If a face to face interview is not possible, a video or audio interview will be arranged. Students must be present for the interview and must be prepared to speak without an interpreter.  The interview consists of a general discussion about the school philosophy, program level (MYP or DP), student experiences in education and domicile details. Parents are invited to bring their questions. The interview will

last approximately 30-45 minutes.

 

Step Five

The Admission Office will contact the applicant to gather details for filing of the student visa (I-120). The I-120 form will be sent to the student in the home country where an appointment with the US Embassy must be arranged in order to process the visa.  Student visas are issued at the foreign US Embassy through the US Department of Homeland Security after a personal interview.

 

STUDENT VISA ARE ISSUED OUTSIDE OF THE US. STUDENTS ARRIVAL WITH A

VALID VISA FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR WILL BE REQUIRED TO RETURN TO THEIR

HOME COUNTRY TO PROCESS THE I-120.
