Welcome to the Upper School. We put an emphasis on character, academic excellence, and the development of leadership skills. This is a secondary school with an international focus, developing the skills that will make them responsible and competitive global citizens. 
In a new and innovative approach, we blend the Montessori tradition with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) to provide our students with a world-class education and we invite you to join us in the opportunity to achieve the world’s highest level of academic achievement available to secondary students.
Westwood is an authorized world school for the Middle Years Programme and is a candidate* school for the Diploma
Programme. Westwood is licensed with the Association Montessori International Teachers of Texas and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. More information on the programs can be obtained at the following websites www.ibo.org.
A student graduating from the Westwood IB program is ready to tackle any university program since the IB curriculum meets and exceeds the entrance requirements of the most selective colleges and universities throughout the world. Many offer advanced standing, course credits and/or special IB scholar programs to IB graduates.

The Westwood School is one of only two schools in the United States to offer a unique blend of the highly regarded Montessori method with the world-acclaimed International Baccalaureate.
Since 1986, Westwood has provided an outstanding Montessori environment beginning at the pre-school level. Providing an ideal overlay to the foundation laid by the Montessori method, Westwood is an authorized IB Middle Years Programme school (grades 7-10) and a candidate school for the IB Diploma Programme (grades 11-12). The first graduating class of The Westwood Secondary School will be spring 2011.
In today’s world, combining two global educational approaches--Montessori and the International Baccalaureate--offers a powerful synergy to students. Maintaining the highest standards in the world (in more than 2200 World Schools in over 120 countries), the International Baccalaureate challenges students to reach beyond themselves and their communities to the world at large.
